Q-Tip Defends Esperanza Spalding’s Grammy Win, Producing New Album

By Kathy Iandoli

Well, RapFix predicted it …sort of. With the sudden success of Esperanza Spalding, following her win of Best New Artist at this year’s Grammys, it was only a matter of time before artists recognized her talent and wanted to work with her.

However, one particular artist was already on board: Q-Tip. The rapper/producer/DJ of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest commented yesterday (February 14th) via Twitter about people making remarks about Spalding’s Grammy win. In the midst of defending the multi-instrumentalist, he revealed something even more interesting. Q-Tip will be producing the musician’s new album. “I happen to be producing Esperanza’s next LP,” Q-Tip tweeted, and followed with some words for the haters. “She is a sweet talented woman. I wish the haters would be more careful w/ comments.”

Since Esperanza’s Grammy win, fans of Justin Bieber have been firing off at the Jazz artist due to her beating the Biebs in the Best New Artist category. The win came as a shock all around, but Spalding’s undeniable talent will surely propel her success following the honor of taking home the Grammy. Q-Tip may be one of many artists willing to work with the budding star on her next project. No word yet on the title of the project or the release date.
