Eminem racked up an impressive ten Grammy nominations although he faces stiff competition in the likes of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry in the Album Of The Year category. But how does the Detroit rhyme slinger stack up against the seasoned Brooklyn veteran Jay-Z in the rap categories?
In the Record Of The Year category, Jay-Z’s “Empire State Of Mind” featuring singer Alicia Keys goes up against Em’s “Love The Way You Lie” that features songstress Rihanna. In the Best Sung/Rap Collaboration category, the same songs are again at battle for Grammy superiority. The songs show up yet again in the Best Rap Song category but are joined by Jay-Z’s “On To The Next One” and Eminem’s “Not Afraid.”
In the Best Rap Album category, Jay-Z Blueprint 3 and Eminem’s Recovery square off in a duel alongside B.O.B.’s Adventures of Bobby Ray, Drake’s Thank Me Later and The Roots How I Got Over. Kayne West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was released too late to be considered for a nomination.
While Jay-Z was Rap music’s top money earner last year and making the Forbes list with a whopping $63 million dollars in earnings, Eminem’s sales of his critically acclaimed Recovery album reached over 3 million in sales in 2010. The rapper’s seventh studio album was released June of last year.
