Mary J. Blige is teasing her fans with a bit to tide them over until her next album. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul debuted a new track entitled “Someone To Love Me (MJB Naked Mix)” featuring Lil Wayne and Diddy on New York’s Hot 97 radio station with jock Angie Martinez on January 4.
Featuring a passionate vocal performance from Blige, the song is actually a remix of “Someone To Love Me” by Diddy Dirty Money. The original version appears on Last Train to Paris, which was released on December 13, 2010, and sold over 100,000 units its first week in stores.
The track’s somber but rhythmic groove, produced by Wyclef Jean’s cousin Jerry “Wonder” Duplessis and Arden “Keyz” Altino, appears to be unchanged, including the sample of “You Roam When You Don’t Get It At Home” by The Sweet Inspirations. As far as performances, the new version features Mary J. Blige singing the chorus, and a verse, along with a fresh 16 bars from Lil Wayne.
“It’s my life, my life word to Mary, n—as can’t f— with me, Virgin Mary,” Wayne spits, referencing Blige’s song “My Life” from her 1994 album of the same title.
While the Yonkers native working alongside Lil Wayne may be new, Diddy and Mary J. Blige are no strangers on the music front. In 1992, Diddy — then going by “Puff Daddy” — executive produced the R&B diva’s debut album What’s the 411?
And Lil’ Kim, who was also part of Diddy’s Bad Boy Records camp, recently caused a stir when while performing on New Years Eve in Springfield, Massachusetts she took more shots at upstart female rapper Nicki Minaj as well as R&B singer Keyshia Cole. The Queen Bee alluded to the possibility that her and Mary J. Blige were concocting a dis track aimed at both aforementioned artists. However, the Queen Bee later clarified, via Twitter, that no such dis track is in the works.
Mary J. Blige’s new album, her tenth and first since 2009’s Stronger With Each Tear, is reportedly due in stores later this year.
