On Saturday (December 18), Diggy Simmons released an old song with a new twist.

Following his first remix of Mobb Deep’s classic “Shook Ones” from his upcoming Past Presents Future mixtape, the young MC dropped “Digg is Like” riffing on Nas’ “Nas Is Like.” MTV News spoke to Diggy about the plan behind the jams.

“With ‘Shook Ones,’ me and my dude Rashid just really strategized everything music-wise,” Diggy  said. “We’re tight, everything we think about [is] on the same mindset. We had the idea of doing the Past Presents Future mixtape and we decided to go with ’90s and ’80s classic beats to [rhyme] over and some of them are flipped. The mixtape is gonna be hosted by the legendary DJ Premier.”

The former “Run’s House” reality TV star also says that the project will be available in time for the holidays.

“So ‘Shook Ones’ is the first thing — well not the first, we put out ‘Rising to the Top’ sort of like a warm up and that wasn’t going to be on the tape but it’s now included and that’s along with ‘Shook Ones,’ which was the real look for the mixtape,” the Run DMC heir said. “And then we got the visuals together with it and we’ve just been working on it. The tape is slated to come before the year is out, it’s almost finished. It’s just in the process of mixing and then it’ll be out.”

Not only will Primo host Past Presents Future but the veteran will contribute something else special to the collaboration.

“Of course DJ Premier’s gonna do his scratching on there,” Diggy said. “It’s gonna be dope, I can’t give away too much but you’ll see.”

“DJ Premier, we met when I did the cipher for the BET [Hip-Hop Awards], he was the DJ behind all those [performances] and I did that with my brother and my dad,” Diggy recalled. “From there my people and him linked up and it was just easy. Then I saw him at the BET Hip-Hop Awards and he’s been real supportive of me so he was down from the jump start. He’s even in the ‘Shook Ones’ video behind the boards while I’m doing my studio scene.”

Past Presents Future hits the web on December 23.
