The “Airplanes” may have taken off but now B.o.B, the pop star, is ready to reclaim his lyrical prowess with the new mixtape No Genre, dropping on December 7. In contrast to his highly-popular single “Nothin’ On You,” the project’s cut “Beast Mode” sharply showcases the MC’s rhyme skills.
“Cause I’m in Beast mode, beast mode/give me those beats I eat those/all day I don’t sleep no/I don’t even know what I got sheets for/them pillow cases and bed frames oh nah take that, don’t need those,” he spits. “So high I don’t get high, don’t even know what I got weed for/people I’m in beast mode.”
In the “Beast Mode” clip, the MC raps vehemently while walking around London, England but the words themselves provide the most imagery.
“Okay then, know what my name is/excuse my language but I’m fed up with the same sh-t/they say they love me but it’s really cause I’m famous see,” he rhymes. “My momma told me this back when I was nameless/so f–k y’all, I’m shameless, I’m a beast unleashed I’m raging/ I’m living inside of this matrix, this video game I’m playing/I ride around and they praise me/I crack a smile and they waving.”
B.o.B’s new mixtape is his first since the February release of his May 25 project.
Recently, B.o.B was nominated for five Grammy nods from his debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray, including Record of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song for his Bruno Mars collabo “Nothin’ on You,” as well as Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals for “Airplanes, Part II” with Eminem and Williams and Best Rap Album for The Adventures of Bobby Ray. Regarding his nods for “Nothin’ on You,” B.o.B said, “Bruno’s the truth, man. I’m glad we’re both nominated. It’s awesome.”
