Call us crazy, but we think it’s pretty clear Kanye West kicked off quite the trend back in August when he debuted his G.O.O.D. Friday music promotion by pledging to deliver one new song every Friday until the release of his forthcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Now, rather than release mixtapes, there are a ton of other artists who are also choosing to release individual songs once a week to keep themselves relevant.
Since we already keep a separate calendar to separate our music days, we got to thinking: ‘Why stop there?’ Surely, there are other artists out there who could take advantage of Kanye’s original idea by releasing music on a specific day each week. So we sat down and came up with seven new music days for artists not currently participating in the process. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, right?
For: Nicki Minaj
How It Could Benefit Her: Well, briefly. Nicki’s album comes out next week so she doesn’t have much time to capitalize on this concept. But judging by all the buzz surrounding her latest leak, “Roman’s Revenge,” featuring Eminem and the snippets of her LP Pink Friday, we’re guessing two Minaj Mondays would probably be more valuable than a year’s worth of … someone else’s days.
For: Pusha T
How It Could Benefit Him: Did you hear the freestyle Pusha did on Funkmaster Flex’s radio show with Kanye West the other night?! If not, know this, the boy’s got bars. For days. Or, more specifically, at least enough to cover the next 25 Pusha T Tuesdays. (Sidebar: Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday we were waiting for months for a new Pusha T verse?)
For: Lil Wayne
How It Could Benefit Him: If Wayne dropped one song every week—instead of the dozen or so he was releasing every week before going to prison—he’d have enough music to last him until…well, let’s just say his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids would still be supplying the rap blogs with new music one day.
For: Asher Roth
How It Could Benefit Him: Yeah, yeah, we know. Asher’s trying to shed the whole “frat boy” image he took on after he recorded a debut single called “I Love College.” But we’ve got news for you, Ash, that whole look could work for you here. Give a shout-out to all your frat followers, then raise a toast to them on Thirsty Thursdays while you present some new music. And watch them drink up.
How It Could Benefit Him: The Bay Area rapper has not one, but two new albums dropping at the beginning of February 2011. That might seem like it’s a long time away, but really, it’s only—*counts on fingers, carries the 9*—well, about 90 days or so. And since he’s got two albums coming, he’s probably got twice as much music on hand as any of the other artists listed here. So he could actually give away two new songs every week and get away with it.
For: Swizz Beatz
How It Could Benefit Him: From just about all of Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Friday releases to Pusha T’s new track, “Bang Bang,” it feels like Swizzy is on everything right now. So why the hell can’t he get his own day, rather than getting clumped into days owned by other artists? Swizz knows how to get a party started (to this day, we can’t hear “Ruff Ryders Anthem” without losing it in the club!) so he gets the coveted Saturday slot. Yo, Swizz: Go ahead and rock out with your … Well, you’re a married man, dude. But have a good time. *
SAI GIDDY SUNDAYS
How It Could Benefit Him: Wait a second … The Greatest Story Never Told is actually about to become more than just an ironically-titled album that was never released?!? In that case, Saigon, how about dropping a few of the songs that you’ve been working on since you started recording the album back in … well, you know better than us. Give us something to look forward to on Sundays. We know you have it.
*RapFix knows Swizz has Monster Mondays, but we think Saturdays are a better fit ok?
