Remembering Lil Wayne’s Letters From Riker’s Island

On Tuesday (November 2), Lil Wayne wrote his final letter from Riker’s Island to his fans via Weezythanxyou. The MC’s correspondence was humble and grateful toward people who have supported him during his eight month journey.

“As I greet you all in my last days on this island, I must reflect,” Wayne began his letter. “I think back to when I first arrived and I had no clue what I’d be experiencing. I was never scared, worried, nor bothered by the situation. For that, I thank God, my family, and you, my amazing fans. I prayed for you all every night, as I’m now aware that I as in y’alls prayers as well.”

Now Weezy has less than 24 hours until his scheduled release and RapFix thought it was the perfect time to take a look back at Wayne’s correspondence from the last eight months and highlight our favorite moments. Ready?

“I’m guessing that you all have heard about my …. punitive segregation. Basically, no T.V., no radio, no snacks/junkfood, and one phone call a week. This punishment has been handed to me for my earlier MP3 incident. I admit, I f—ed up and now I must deal with the consequences … Obviously, this gives me a lot of time to myself and a lot of alone time with my thoughts, which can be creatively dangerous.”

“Time is ticking and I’m counting every second. Because of my new limitations, this unfortunately has to be my last letter. I don’t think people truly understand how much their thoughts and well wishes have helped me through this time in my life. Not everyone is as lucky as I am and it humbles me daily. You would be amazed what positivity can do in a negative environment. I’m going to miss reading about your lives. I’m going to miss looking at the pictures. They were the highlight of my days aside from speaking with my kids.”

“I think by the time you all read this I’ll be 28 years old … feeling ancient in this bitch! … I’m still playing UNO. Still doing pushups and such, by the way, please don’t expect me to come out looking any different. I’m the same little ‘ol me.”

*Lil Wayne took this time to reply to specific fans who’d written him*

“Latrise Evegan – I surely appreciate your opinion of me. And let me say that you’re one beautiful woman.”

August 16

“I’ve learned plenty already and the best lesson is to not come back. Last night, I kicked ass in UNO!”

July 20

“Oh Lebron! The recent move by the Miami Heat confirms that we will someday soon have that good ole basketball back with all due respect to the Lakers-Celtics 7 game series. This move reminds me of the days when it was Johnson, Worthy, and Jabbar vs. Bird, Parrish, and McHale, or Thomas, Dumars, and Lambeer. Well now we have Bryant, Gasol, Bynum, and Pierce, Allen, Garnett, and ultimately, Wade, Bosh, and James!”

July 13

“Hello world … I never imagined that I could have such an impact on people’s lives. Because of this, I vow to be a bit more careful of what I say.”

June 28

“You already know how I’m passing the time—reading and working out.  I know I say it every letter, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for the pictures, rocking free weezy tees, and continuous  letters. They mean the world.”

May 7

“To the mothers of my beautiful children, there remains nothing but love, adoration and respect coming from my heart … Last but not least, my own mother, Ms. Cita. You are my heart and you are my soul. Please don’t ever forget that. We’ve been through everything one could possibly imagine together … Even writing this, it’s tough to come to grips with the fact I cannot spend this special day with you.”

April 2

“Life happens quick. The more time you spend contemplating what you should have done … you lose valuable time planning what you can and will do … I work out a lot because it helps pass the time. I read the Bible everyday. Jail didn’t make me find God, he’s always been there. They can lock me up, but my spirit and my love can never be confined to prison walls.”

When Lil Wayne returns home on November 4, he will have completed 80 percent of his one-year sentence for attempted gun possession.
