J.Cole announced the title and release date for his third official mixtape, Friday Night Lights, today (November 2). The project will hit arrive before the debut of his first major label album, which is still untitled.

The North Carolina wordsmith leaked a teaser from the upcoming project on Tuesday (November 2) titled “Before I’m Gone," which finds the MC spitting with his trademark ferocity. “Can’t you tell I’m going through hell, I don’t even open my mail/I’m in a shower with soap and a towel/I need cleansing … ,” Cole spits, with a cool confidence.

In a recent interview with Shade 45 on-air personality Angela Yee, J.Cole spoke about his upcoming mixtape, being on the same Roc Nation label as kid sensation Willow Smith and seemingly voicing some frustrations about the release of his debut. Read More...

Diddy aimed to make voting sexy in 2004 when the Bad Boy Records mogul launched his “Vote or Die!” campaign through Citizen Change.

Since then, the hip-hop community has continued to mobilized efforts to vote, from Russell Simmons' endeavors locally in New York to Jay-Z hitting the stump for Barack Obama via his concerts all over the country.

While mid-term elections don’t draw the same interest as the presidential races, the process is no less important.

President Barack Obama has continued to urge young people to vote, from his recent “A Conversation with President Obama," town hall hosted by MTV News correspondent Sway to his Tuesday morning (November 2) phone call into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. Read More...

What do you do when you were the first wife of hip-hop's biggest star, Lil Wayne? If you're Antonia "Toya" Carter, you write a memoir.

Amidst prepping the project, Toya took a moment to tweet she and her daughter Reginae's excitement about Weezy's homecoming this Thursday.

"My baby is soooo happy ... her daddy will be home in 2 days. I ? to see her smiling ?," Toya wrote.

Following in the footsteps of DMX's wife Tashera Simmons, who retained author Aliya S. King to pen her upcoming tell-all book, Antonia "Toya" Carter is prepping her own memoir entitled “Priceless Inspiration,” which explores her rocky relationship with Lil’ Wayne.

Toya, who stars on the BET reality series "Tiny and Toya,"—which is much more interesting than many rap fans thought it would be, RapFix included—is a bit different from other authors who’ve chosen to expose their rap relationships. Instead of being shunned, like hip-hop vixen Karrine Steffans or Carmen Bryant, the mother of Nas' first child, Toya’s gotten her Grammy Award-winning ex-husband’s full support on the project. Please Hammer, don’t hurt 'em.

MC Hammer, the '90s era rap star who’s currently enjoying a small return to relevance after Rick Ross song named after him, stepped to the forefront of hip-hop’s collective attention this past Sunday (October 31), when he unleashed a dis song and video- “Better Run Run”- aimed at Jay-Z

The source of Hammer’s beef with Jay-Z stems from lines Jiggaman spits on the Kanye West track “So Appalled.” In the song, Jay-Z says, “Hammer went broke, so you know I'm more focused ... I lost 30 mil, so I spent another 30/ Cos unlike Hammer, 30 million can't hurt me." Hammer took offense to the reference, and tweeted back in September, when the song dropped, “You wanted my attention #HellBoy (Jigga), you got it. The answer to Jay comes on Oct 31."

Hammer made good on his promise, and delivered “Better Run Run” on Halloween. Read More...

Remember our surprise when Justin Bieber rhymed over Cam'ron and Vado's "Speaking in Tungs" as his rap alter-ego Shawty Mane in October? Well, MTV News caught up with the well-coiffed teen star about the origin of his hip-hop persona.

"Shawty Mane, I don't know, me and my friends were just messing around and they were like 'Shawty Mane' and I was like 'Yeah, that'll be my nickname,' " said Bieber at an L.A. signing for his book "Justin Bieber: First Step 2 Forever: My Story."

Rather than beginning a second career as an MC, Bieber said his lines were all in jest.

"Shawty Mane is just like a funny character," explains Bieber. "You know Justin Bieber is not a rapper, and it would just be lame if I came out rapping. It's lame anyway because I'm like a pop singer, but I thought it was funny, I just did it as a joke. It wasn't like anything serious." Read More...

It's only been eight months, but it seems like Lil Wayne has been in prison for a long time, doesn't it?

As RapFix pointed out yesterday, Young Money's leading man has missed the dramatic transformation of Nicki Minaj, the comeback of Kanye West, the rise of Waka Flocka Flame and the debut of Drake thanks to the prison sentence that he's been serving at New York's Riker's Island facility. But Weezy hasn't squandered his time.

Aside from the personal growth we know he's gained during his time away, Wayne has also managed to do some really great things for his career despite his position since March. To demonstrate this point, RapFix gathered a list of the 10 things Wayne's accomplished from behind the Riker's Island walls. By the looks of things, Birdman, Drake, Nicki and the rest of the crew will be celebrating more than just Wayne's release later this week.

1. He released a chart-topping album

How in the hell did he ... ? Yeah, that was our response, too. Though he'd been gone for more than five months at the time, Weezy released I Am Not A Human Being—an album featuring 10 brand new tracks—at the end of September. He's sold more than 250,000 copies of the album so far and landed at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. Out of this world, huh?

2. He increased the buzz for Tha Carter IV

Originally, Cash Money/Young Money was going to release Tha Carter IV shortly after Wayne got out of jail (or, at least, that's was they said they were going to do). However, thanks to the success of I Am Not A Human Being as well as the success of Drake and Nicki Minaj, it sounds like he'll have plenty of time to build even more buzz around himself before he drops his next album. Shooting to sell another mill, huh, Wayne? Read More...

While 50 Cent and Chelsea "Chelsea Lately" Handler keep saying they're not dating ... the two keep popping up on what look to be "dates." Lunch in Malibu (as shown above), holding a conversation in a dark corner in a New Orleans club right before 50 performs ... you be the judge.

According to Us Weekly, the pair had lunch and then departed in Fif's Rolls Royce. While Fif flirts with the possibility that the two might be a couple, Chelsea ... not so much.

"I'm not banging ... I'm not banging," Handler confirmed on her E! show last month. "He wasn't singing to me," she added. "He was singing and I saw it ... When I have something to say, I will say it on this show. There's nothing to talk about. Seriously." Read More...
