The 2010 Video Music Awards will be kicking off shortly and mums still the word on much of what the night has in store for us.
We know this much, on the hip-hop side, Eminem, Drake and Kanye West will be hitting the stage. Last night Kanye had a closed door rehearsal and nobody really knows what he has planned. Rumors say that Taylor Swift is going to be performing a new song from her upcoming album “Speak Now” about her onstage run-in last year with Kanye. Do you think Kanye will do the same and sing the song he reportedly wrote for her?
It’s all just speculation at this point, but here’s our wish list for surprise guests and why.
Eminem: The Detroit MC will perform “Love The Way You Lie” with Rihanna. Still, after Dr. Dre resurfaced last week at Em’s hometown concert, it’s not a stretch to consider that the N.W.A. alumni might pop up tonight. “Detox” is still on the Interscope list of upcoming albums and this might be a good night to reintroduce Dre. Also, Pink could come out for “Won’t Back Down.”
Drake: Since Wayne can’t break out of jail by 9pm, the obvious guest here would be Nicki Minaj. Nicki’s performed with will.i.am during the VMA pre-show and they could tear the roof off the Nokia Theatre by doing “Up All Night,” one of the more powerful tracks on Drake’s “Thank Me Later.” T.I. and Swizz Beatz could also come out because “Fancy” has been the joint of the summer.
Justin Bieber: He’s not the most hip-hop guy around but it’s very conceivable that he’ll bring out Ludacris for “Baby” should he perform it. Sean Kingston could also join him for “Eenie Meenie,” and hey, maybe even Raekwon comes out for the “Runaway Love” remix.
Kanye West: Expect fireworks here. Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Swizz Beatz, John Legend, heck even Jay-Z. A medley of recent hits like “Power” (or perhaps the remix) and “Monster” would make sense. That would fill the portion of his performance that is strictly for the Kanye fans, then give him time to do his song for Taylor, or something like it. No doubt about it though, expect Jay-Z. The two are releasing a collaborative EP together and they’ve been nothing if not totally in sync with one another over the past year.
