For one, hot minute there, they wore the crown as Hip-Hop’s Hottest Couple.
All hopes were dashed Saturday night, though, when theYoung Money Barbie tweeted, “My husband Drake and I have decided to have our marriage annulled.”
While Drake and Nicki never really walked the aisle, plenty of hip-hop artists wore matching crowns over the years. Here are our ten favorite hip-hop couples that either transcended courtship, or ended up in court.
7. Bow Wow & Ciara
Five years after their relationship, fans still think they’re an item. Bow Wow’s 2005 hit “Like You” featured Ci Ci and their love was sparked, but by 2006 Bow Wow was lamenting over their breakup in “Outta My System”. It was a rollercoaster of rumored romance even up until this month, when Ciara appeared for Bow Wow’s movie Lottery Ticket and everyone thought they were back on again. No such luck.
6. Treach & Pepa
Pepa and Treach were one of hip-hop’s first couples. In 1993, Treach played Pepa’s love interest in the video for the Salt-N-Pepa hit “Whatta Man” with En Vogue. By 1999, the two were married and even had their rings tattooed upon their fingers. The two divorced in 2001, and just last year Pepa detailed her marriage to the Naughty By Nature veteran in Let’s Talk About Pep. Is that ring tattoo removable?

5. Mack 10 & T-Boz
For a few years there, many believed that West Coast gangsta rap had a soft side. In 2000, T-Boz and Mack 10 tied the knot, but by 2004 the marriage was over — complete with restraining order. T-Boz later said that Mack 10 physically abused and cheated on her when she was seriously ill (T-Boz was hospitalized in 2002 due to sickle cell anemia complications). In Mack 10’s, “Mirror Mirror,” he says he never abused the TLC songbird, he only cheated on her.
4. Nas & Kelis
In 2003, Nas guest-starred as the short-order cook in Kelis’ video for “Milkshake.” They were married by 2005 and divorced in 2009 while Kelis was pregnant with their child, Knight. The couple’s separation has been bitter and hard-fought.
3. Usher & Chilli
Hip-hop’s cutest couple was hot and heavy in 2001, when the TLC front woman portrayed Usher’s love interest in the video for “U Got It Bad”. The two split in 2003, inspiring Usher’s pensive “Confessions” LP. Years later, the songstress was still pining on her VH1 reality show, “What Chilli Wants.”
2. T.I. & Tiny
With a little bit of hope and a lot of patience, the ride or die chick wins in the long ride. Tiny has remained by T.I.’s side throughout his many legal issues, including his recent prison term. While Tiny did manage to capitalize with the show “Tiny and Toya”, she still has the duty of part-time mommy to three of T.I.’s children from past relationships, plus the two children they have together, and the one Tiny had from a previous boyfriend. The two finally tied the knot in three cities last month, further evidence that that parent trap can deliver a happy ending.
1. Jay-Z & Beyoncé
Jay and Bey officially kicked off the rumor mill with their “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” collaboration. For years, we watched the two arrive separately at the same events, collaborate on songs, and still deny that they even knew each other personally. Even when Jay-Z alluded to Beyoncé on 2003’s “Public Service Announcement” (“Got the hottest chick in the game wearing my chain”), we were still left in the dark. It all came together in when the couple wed in April, 2008. Will The King and Queen of Hip-Hop have themselves a Little Prince? We won’t find out until the kid’s in college.
Who’d we forget? Which couple do you think is hip-hop’s hottest? Sound off below.
